The temporary exhibition - "Free Women" Asian-Inspired Artistic Nude - A Fine Art series inspired by Asian prints

Updated on 8 August 2026

Here we are in the second week of our cycle, the one where we leave the tame shores for something bolder. It is time for the Free Women series. It is a creative space I particularly love because it lets me work the body in a sculptural and symbolic way. Here, the nude becomes graphic, carrying meaning and strength. It is another facet of my work, more direct, which I am delighted to share with you today..

Free Women: Asian-inspired artistic nude - A Fine Art series inspired by Asian prints.
Approaching Asian aesthetics in art photography means escaping the trap of postcard exoticism. For this instalment of my logbook, my intention was purely plastic: to marry the rigour of ancient geometry with the fluidity of water. We worked in a set of aged wood panelling and chased reliefs, evoking the suspended atmosphere of the baths of another century. Here, the artistic nude does not seek to reveal for the sake of revealing; it is conceived as a calligraphy, a line of black ink drawn on rice paper, the beauty of the Asian-inspired artistic nude.
The duality of the material guided the whole session. On one side, the heaviness of the traditional fabrics, the richness of embroidered patterns that catch the studio light; on the other, the translucency of water and the softness of a delicate semi-nudity. As a photographer, I behaved like a sculptor: the surface of the bath became a liquid mirror, breaking and doubling the model’s volumes. I remember one precise moment when steam from the bath began to rise, naturally diffusing my artificial light sources. Rather than ventilating to recover a clinical sharpness, I embraced this vaporous texture. The grain of the image softened, creating an immediate, almost painterly dreaminess.
The model is never passive. In this setting of stone and wood, her presence is imperial. Whether draped in silk or emerging from the water, her gaze and posture command respect for her space. This is the very essence of the art of the nude as I conceive it: a celebration of form, of light gliding over a damp shoulder, and of the graphic force of a body in dialogue with history.

This graphic exploration is over for this week, but the month is far from finished. In seven days, we will slip into something more muted and more tactile. Get ready for the Embodied Intimacies series, where we will set the staging aside to move closer to the skin and the senses. See you next week!
