Here we are already: it is the last week of our monthly cycle. To conclude this visual adventure, it’s the turn of What’s New in the Studio. This is often where I gather my most recent work, my lighting research or my technical favourites. Whether complex portraits or cinematic stagings, this category is the laboratory of my latest inspirations. It is my way of ending the month with you on a strong, creative note.

What’s New in the Studio: Barbarella, the Retro Solar SF Heroine - A graphic, pop reworking of a science-fiction icon

Barbarella. This name resonates like an echo of my childhood, a futuristic, kitsch aesthetic that marked a whole generation. But taking up this theme today, in an art-of-the-nude approach, demanded absolute rigour so as not to fall into mere reproduction or easy costume. I wanted to deconstruct the myth to keep its essence: total freedom and a fascinating ‘plastic’ aesthetic — that, in summary, is this hyper-pop science-fiction Barbarella theme!

Here I work on the contrast of materials. The challenge was to confront the organic warmth of skin with the coldness of the sci-fi accessories: Perspex, metal, synthetic outfits. As a photographer, I seek to model these contrasts. The light has to be hard, directional, almost clinical at times, to recall the lighting of 1960s film sets, while still enhancing the model’s curves.

It is a resolutely graphic approach. Nudity here is not an end in itself, it is the symbol of a heroine who is not afraid, who crosses worlds (and the studio) with a disarming assurance. We worked on dynamic poses, defying gravity, to break out of the usual stillness of the studio. It is a celebration of form, of the clear line, a tribute to comics where the body becomes a powerful design element in the service of a pop narrative.

To see this week’s exhibitions or all of my work, here are the options:

And so our month in images comes to an end. I hope you enjoyed discovering these four series as much as I enjoyed creating them. If you missed an episode or want to dive without limit into all of these galleries (and the previous ones), the Pass remains the best way to support my work and miss nothing. Thank you for your loyalty, and see you next month for new stories!
