Photos of the Week - Free Women: Artistic Nude and Sailor’s Rope: When the raw matter of rope sculpts light and redefines volumes.

Updated on 9 May 2026

Here we are in the second week of our cycle, the one where we leave the tame shores for something bolder. It is time for the Free Women series. It is a creative space I particularly love because it lets me work the body in a sculptural and symbolic way. Here, the nude becomes graphic, carrying meaning and strength. It is another facet of my work, more direct, which I am delighted to share with you today..

Photos of the Week - Free Women: Artistic Nude and Sailor’s Rope: When the raw matter of rope sculpts light and redefines volumes.
I recently brought an unexpected element onto the studio set: a thick sailor’s rope, in contrast with the artistic nude. There is, in my approach, an almost visceral need to confront materials, a direct legacy of my years spent sculpting and looking for volume beneath the tool. This time, the tool is this rough, authentic hemp, shaped by a history that is not ours.
I did not approach this object as a staging accessory, but as a genuine architectural line of force. In the Art of the Nude, the risk is sometimes to let the gaze get lost on the curves alone. Here the rope cuts across the space, imposing a strict, graphic geometry around which the model composes herself, leans, rises. There is no notion of constraint here; quite the opposite. The rope becomes an anchor, a solid base that lets the posture assert itself with quiet power. It is a tactile confrontation: the raw character of the plant fibre against the grain of the skin, the rigidity of the line against the suppleness of the living.
To explore all the dimensions of this encounter, I split my work in the laboratory. On one side, a radical black-and-white approach, on a neutral background. Here, Art photography becomes pure graphic design. The light skims the braids of the hemp and caresses the shadows, isolating the composition from any distraction.
On the other, I wanted to open a window onto Dreaminess through montage and double exposure. I layered these studio sessions with harbour horizons at sunset, bathed in warm, coppery tones. The Artistic Nude then meets the immensity of the seascape. The rope is no longer just a line in a closed space; it becomes a mooring line again, linking human presence to the ocean, skin to the horizon. It is a logbook written between the millimetre precision of the studio and the call of the open sea.
To see this week’s exhibitions or all of my work, here are the options:
This graphic exploration is over for this week, but the month is far from finished. In seven days, we will slip into something more muted and more tactile. Get ready for the Embodied Intimacies series, where we will set the staging aside to move closer to the skin and the senses. See you next week!
